As Canadian artist Grimes announced her long-awaited new album to massive response, she urged Canadian youth to get out and vote against Stephen Harper. Fans who Instagram to her photos of themselves at a polling station have a chance to be chosen as her guests at one of her sold-out upcoming Canadian shows.
In a blog post titled "Canadians!" she wrote a letter urging young Canadians to vote. She offered to give a space to three participants and their friends to her sold-out shows, including an October 26 performance at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, November 21 in Montreal and November 22 in Toronto:
Tomorrow is the election and last day to vote. The youth vote is what is going to make a difference in this election, aka: you guys! I hope y’all are excited to fight for a cause you believe in :) Oct 20 could be a great day in Canadian history. ^_^
Important fact 1: If you want to vote but are tight on transport/ time and need a ride, apparently you can contact the office of your candidate of choice (in your riding), because some of them are giving rides to the polls! Amazing.
Important fact 2: I know you’re also probably all familiar with everything, so I'll keep this simple. There are human stakes in this election. Support for the Conservatives is endorsement of their decision to stigmatize and endanger minority women for political gain.
See: attack on the niqab, barbaric cultural practices hotline, refusing to conduct an investigation for the staggering numbers of missing and murdered Aboriginal women…. etc.
“At least eight Muslim women have been attacked since the beginning of this fear-mongering election campaign, most often by white males.” —>https://www.nationalobserver.com/2015/10/18/opinion/yellow-stain-bystander-bigotry-newspaper-endorsements
There are of course many other reasons not to vote Conservative, but these may be their least forgivable actions..
Last thing: Luckily, many Grimes fans have been active participants in ending this madness. Anyone who tagged me (or continues to tag me in the coming days) @ their voting station are now potential guests to my sold out Canadian shows! My management will be hitting up three lucky fans (who can each bring one friend) in each applicable city after the election <3 see ya @ the polls! (actually I voted remotely, but I'll be there in spirit)
Born and raised in Vancouver, Grimes was recently profiled in The New Yorker magazine, and toured with pop diva Lana Del Ray this summer. Her song, "Genesis," was used for National Observer's Kickstarter video to crowdfund news coverage for this website.
