Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen says Canada has begun resettling hundreds of people rescued from slavery in Libya.
Hussen says Canada was among a few countries that responded to a request from the United Nations refugee agency in 2017.
He says so far, 150 people have been resettled in Canada.
Another 600 are expected to come over the next two years, through the regular refugee program.
Another 100 Nigerois refugees from Libyan migrant detention centres are also expected to be resettled.
The program follows previous refugee resettlements of Yazidis and Syrians.
