Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and wife Sophie are sending their best wishes to Donald Trump and his wife Melania after the pair tested positive for COVID-19.
Trudeau says on Twitter that they are hoping for a full recovery for the president and the first lady.
Trump dropped the bombshell early Friday just hours after Hope Hicks, one of his closest advisers, tested positive herself.
He says he and Melania will quarantine at home, an ironic development for a president and an administration that critics have assailed for a cavalier and haphazard approach to the pandemic.
The revelations are galvanizing Washington with questions about everything from the first family's true health ⏤ the president is 74, in a high-risk age group ⏤ to how deeply the virus has infected the White House.
Vice-President Mike Pence and his wife Karen, meanwhile, say they have both tested negative for the virus.
"Sophie and I are sending our best wishes to @POTUS Trump and @FLOTUS," Trudeau tweeted. "We hope you both get well soon and have a full recovery from this virus."
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau tested positive for COVID-19 early in the pandemic.
