Authorities are collecting information about the right-wing Proud Boys group as part of a possible terrorist designation, the federal Liberal government said on Sunday, January 10, 2021, as it faced calls to ban the organization over its role in last week’s Capitol Hill riot.

Until this week, few Canadians had heard of the Proud Boys. That changed on Canada Day, when five young men in matching black polo shirts disrupted an Indigenous ceremony in Halifax.

They roared up in motorcycles and climbed out of Ubers, wearing high heels and flip flops, "Make Canada Great Again" hats, brocade blazers and sweatsuits.

The Toronto-based airline said Wednesday the decision was made after it became aware that its ads were appearing on the site, run by media personality Ezra Levant.

The Rebel, a Canadian media organization which spreads racist, anti-Muslim rhetoric, is standing by the contributor behind a video published this week entitled “10 Things I Hate About Jews.”
