Canada joined forces on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, with the United States in a bilateral effort to push back against what they consider protectionist energy policies in Mexico that violate both the spirit and the letter of North America's new trade rules.

With the United States and Canada each taking stock of their supply−chain woes and marking one year since their heralded bilateral "road map," a group of House Republicans is raising concerns about whether the two countries should be working together on critical minerals.

The situation is leading to calls on the federal government to use the current snarl in global supply chains to become more active in rethinking and reshaping the country's reliance on foreign suppliers. 

Canada has indeed asked the United States for help in procuring doses of COVID-19 vaccines, but the White House refused to say on Wednesday, March 1, 2021, whether it has agreed to the request.
