Ukraine's ambassador to Canada will today, August 4, 2022, make clear her country's disappointment over Canada's decision to allow pipeline equipment that was in Montreal for repairs to be returned to a state-controlled energy giant in Russia despite war-related sanctions.

The federal government has found a powerful supporter for its decision to allow a natural gas pipeline between Russia and Europe to resume operations.

Fearing Russia might cut off natural gas supplies, the head of Germany’s regulatory agency for energy called on residents on Saturday, July 2, 2022, to save energy and to prepare for winter, when use increases.

It’s not a summer heat wave that’s making European leaders and businesses sweat. It’s fear that Russia’s manipulation of natural gas supplies will lead to an economic and political crisis next winter. Or, in the worst case, even sooner.
