Quebec's Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region is known for its spectacular fjord and rugged outdoor landscapes. But its isolation has also made the region north of Quebec City home to something else: a higher than normal presence of more than two dozen rare genetic diseases, including some whose frequency in the region have recently been measured for the first time.

Lengthy power outages that have left some Quebecers in the dark for days have exposed the province's lack of preparedness for the green energy transition to come, an expert said Wednesday.

First Nations in northern Quebec are calling on the province and the federal government for more funding for Indigenous police forces, following an appeals court decision in favour of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh Takuhikan First Nation on the issue.
