The Canada Child Benefit is being hailed for lifting children out of poverty seven years since its introduction, as families get a cost-of-living boost this month.
The national statistics office says fewer children are living in poverty and it is connecting the drop to the Liberal government's signature child benefit.
"Our plan — to invest in people, to strengthen and grow the middle class, and to build an economy that works for everyone — is working. By this time next year, a typical family of four will be $2,000 better off under our plan." — Finance Minister Bill Morneau.
