A stranded killer whale calf is showing signs of regular activity as it breaches every seven to 10 minutes in a lagoon near the northern Vancouver Island village of Zeballos.
Work to coax the two-year-old Bigg's killer whale over a sandbar and into the open ocean started after its mother died more than a week ago when she beached at the lagoon and could not be saved.
A British Columbia marine research group says a female killer whale died on Saturday after being stranded in shallow water near the Village of Zeballos on the west side of Vancouver Island.
