The lightning spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant is prompting federal politicians to reconsider the wisdom of having several hundred MPs crammed together in the House of Commons.

Conservatives say all 338 members of Parliament should be able to vote on whether they must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter the House of Commons.

Marilyn Gladu, a federal MP who is part of the group issued a statement reiterating she supports her leader "as well as his positions on COVID-19." 

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cut his special representative for the Prairies from cabinet, signalling the Liberal government will take a different approach to its relationship with the West.

Conservatives say they disagree with a committee of MPs deciding that only fully vaccinated MPs, staff and visitors can enter the House of Commons.

Mandatory immunization has been called for by the Liberals and Bloc Québécois, and supported by the NDP, as parties prepare for Parliament to resume following last month's federal election.
