Forty people who were living in a street encampment on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside that is being cleared by city workers have accepted offers of accommodation, BC Housing says.
A resident of a street encampment in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside watched on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, as workers began removing some people's belongings after the city handed out notices advising that tents and other structures will be dismantled.
The deadline to dismantle an encampment along Vancouver's Hastings Street has passed with little change, but the city's mayor says he's reached out to the federal and B.C. governments for urgent funding and other supports.
