Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Joe Biden are meeting face to face this morning as the North American Leaders' Summit begins in earnest.
Pena Nieto’s anti−isolationism message came one day after he and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau trumpeted their bilateral relationship as a model of political and economic co−operation.
Human rights questions have followed Pena Nieto to Canada this week, where he has tried to keep the focus on deepening economic and environmental co−operation with Canada and the United States.
Obama, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexico’s Enrique Peña Nieto will release what he called a "a comprehensive North American climate, clean energy and environment partnership."
Canada and Mexico must also take the opportunity to strengthen their bilateral co−operation as a counterweight to an incoming U.S. administration in 2017 that is likely to be more inward looking.
Trudeau will host Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto during a state visit next week before the North American leaders’ summit that will also include U.S. President Barack Obama.
Because Barack Obama’s days in office are numbered, Canada isn’t pursing any major initiatives beyond climate change for reinvigorating the complicated three−way relationship at the summit.
