Why are we offering subscriptions now at a lower price?

Readers tell us that a $49.99 price point for six months makes the publication easily affordable, even now. That's the good news. And that's our Basic Access offer. Basic Access gives you access to all of our daily news and in-depth reporting. It also gives you commenting privileges.

But here's the thing, producing investigative journalism and in-depth features is expensive. The true value of our journalism remains $139.99/year. That is why we also invite you to donate as you can. That's our Ally offer. When you subscribe at full price, you are helping us keep our journalism open to people who simply can't afford the full price.

Journalism plays an invaluable role in protecting democracy. People simply can't make good decisions without reliable information. So if you can, we ask you to pay more.
