The Government of Saskatchewan still hasn't released the results of a Husky Energy spill last summer, and already, the Calgary-based energy company has done it again.

Federal agencies are responding to an oil spill at an Enbridge Inc. storage site that contaminated a creek in an area east of Edmonton.

Besides endangered beluga whales, Cook Inlet is home to salmon and other fish.

Murphy Oil has been fined $172,500 after the Alberta Energy Regulator concluded the Arkansas−based company did not maintain a pipeline that leaked oil for 45 days before it was discovered.

An oil industry services company will pay $9.5 million in penalties for Gulf of Mexico safety violations and for pollution from a 2012 offshore platform fire that killed three workers.

So far, 174,000 litres of oil have been recovered and 185 cubic metres of contaminated soil removed from the spill in southeastern Saskatchewan, the provincial government said.

“The last thing they need is hundreds of loud oil tankers carrying millions of gallons of dirty oil through their habitat," says the Center for Biological Diversity in California.

As he rotated the tug, he grinned and joked, "You shouldn’t give me toys like this."

Marc Garneau was on the defensive in Vancouver after Prime Minister Trudeau approved the controversial Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain expansion and Enbridge's Line 3 pipeline on Tuesday.

B.C. Premier Christy Clark says the Trans Mountain expansion is "very close" to meeting the five environmental, financial, and legal conditions she needs to endorse the new pipeline.

Saskatchewan is proposing tougher rules for pipelines following an oil spill into the North Saskatchewan River that jeopardized the drinking water of thousands of people.

Husky has now admitted that "ground movement" is to blame for its disastrous pipeline spill. That may sound out of Husky's control, but could the spill still have been prevented?

Husky Energy says ground movement is the reason a section of its pipeline burst in late July, leaking more than 220,000 litres of crude oil into the North Saskatchewan River.

It's the most significant investment ever made in protecting Canada's oceans, said Prime Minister Trudeau in Vancouver on Monday.
