The prospective conservation area would stretch down the western edge of Hudson Bay on Manitoba’s Arctic coastline, producing an increase in resources, regulations and support to ensure a healthy coast in the sensitive low-arctic waters. The town also reports that while 358 structures were destroyed, mostly businesses and homes, the total number of housing units lost is about 800.

The Alberta premier says her government is striking a committee of senior civil servants to work with Parks Canada and Jasper leaders to swap ideas, expedite development permits and collaborate on ways to restore Jasper as quickly as possible.

"Fire is a natural process and we expect animals to find new places to live," said James McCormick, Jasper's human-wildlife coexistence specialist.
