While Will and Kate may not have noticed the banner as they shook hands with the public, their escorts — Prime Minister Trudeau, his wife, and the Vancouver mayor — would have got the message.

Trudeau was seen lifting his hand, trying to high-five the young prince, who shook his head and did not accept the gesture.

The couple, without Prince George and Princess Charlotte, left Victoria on a float plane and arrived at Vancouver's Jack Poole Plaza, where several hundred royal fans gave them a noisy welcome.

The prince also recalled his visit to B.C. as a teenager in the late 1990s, when he was a heartthrob greeted by screaming girls.
