Justin Fisher is an organizer and researcher with Climate Justice Saskatoon and a co-author of Bridging the Gap: Building bridges between urban environmentalists and coal-producing communities in Saskatchewan. He is a PhD student in environmental history at the University of Saskatchewan.

The Future of Coal in Saskatchewan is a research project exploring the social and technical aspects of a coal phaseout in Saskatchewan. The project's first report, Bridging the Gap: Building bridges between urban environmentalists and coal producing communities in Saskatchewan, was published in November 2018. The Future of Coal is supported by the Pembina Institute and is funded in part by the Corporate Mapping Project (corporatemapping.ca). What is the future of coal in Saskatchewan?

If you talk with community members in Estevan and Coronach, the province’s principal coal-producing communities, you will hear that most people have no idea what to expect. This is important because there are significant numbers of livelihoods at stake – and for a small town like Coronach, the very future of the community seems to hang in the balance.
