Laurel Collins is the NDP critic for the environment and climate change and the Member of Parliament for Victoria. Previously, Collins was an instructor in political sociology and social justice studies at the University of Victoria. Her research focused on violence and non-violence in social movements and education. She worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on issues of displacement. Collins was involved in campaigns for environmental justice, post-secondary education, protecting civil liberties, and ending violence against women.
